Red Hat Society

Ever heard of them? The Red Hat Society, begun in 1997 by Sue Ellen Cooper, was inspired by the poem "Warning," by Jenny Joseph and begins with the following two lines:

"When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me."

Members of the society are of "a certain age" with one aim: to have fun. Well, I can promise you that the ladies in this group are a lively bunch! Saturday, our store was graced by the presence of the ladies from the Red Hat Regals of Orange Park. Donning their own purple aprons to make their dinners and uhh, red hats, our ladies got down to work creating dinners to take home. Our thanks go out to Barbara Stewart and the ladies for bringing a little red and purple joy to our store!

What You Missed


Wow. What a wonderful night we had here at Dream Dinners last Friday night! With entertainment from talented performers with the Jacksonville Consortium of African American Artists (JCAAA) that included "The Prodigal Son" from the works of James Weldon Johnson and a vocal rendition of Paul Robeson's "Old Man River" from "Showboat," we felt we were in the theater! Everyone had a marvelous time and the food (if we do say so ourselves) was great! We thank everyone for the great turn out and because this was so successful, we are thinking of planning another event soon. Kudos to Roxanne Hilbert and Gene Holloman for your excellent performances. You were great!

A Celebration of Black History Month

This Friday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m., we are pleased to present, "A Celebration of Black History Month." You are invited to come on out and have a great evening with us as we listen to poetry presented by the Jacksonville Consortium of African American Artists (JCAAA). Be prepared to be enthralled by the works of Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson and others, performed by the talented members of this organization. Meet interesting people and mingle, network, and otherwise enjoy a great evening. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Please call us at (904) 886-3123 to RSVP.

How It Works

Dream Dinners offers 17 items each month plus side dishes. Step 1. Log on to dreamdinners.com Step 2. Locate "Register" link at lower right on page. Click on link and complete registration form. Step 3. Choose a date and time that you'd like to come in and prepare your dinners by selecting the "Menus and Sessions" link. Step 4. Arrive at our location with a cooler or basket to take your meals home in. Step 5. Fix up 12-17 dinners in about two hours and have fun doing it! Step 6. Take your personally assembled meals home to freeze, thaw and cook at a later time in the month. What that means is this: You no longer have the excuse of stopping in at McJunkFood, or Le Expensive to have a delicious, healthy meal at home, ready to go! You and your family reap huge benefits. Step 7. Hint: Don't forget to frizz your hair a little and dust on some flour, so your family will know how hard you worked to prepare dinner!

Cooking and Assembly Tips

Dream Dinners is committed to giving you healthy alternatives to restaurant and fast food. You'll notice when assembling meals how little salt is added to our recipes. Since we add an abundance of other herbs and spices, you will taste how delicious the meals are without a lot of added salt. The side dish vegetables and rices/pastas are provided with very simple instructions and do not include the addition of salt or butter or oil.
